Hidden assets in divorce case

Summary:

After the divorce was final, our client was told by a friend that her ex-husband had had off-shore accounts he hadn’t revealed during the divorce. We found out that he, in fact, did have undisclosed accounts in the Caribbean and Mexico.

The Story:

Attorneys for the ex-wife of a successful businessman contacted us because their client believed her ex-husband had lied during their divorce and had been hiding assets from her for years. During their marriage, our client had helped her husband build a lucrative business. After their divorce settlement, a colleague told her that her ex-husband had off-shore accounts. She had never been aware of any off-shore accounts. If what the colleague had said was true, she could ask the court to re-open the case and re-negotiate their settlement. Our research indicated that her ex-husband did indeed have accounts in the Caribbean and Mexico that were not disclosed at the time of the divorce. It was now in the hands of her attorneys to assist her in getting a better settlement.
