Toxic/Tort: Adler v. Southern California Water Company,
Anderson v. Southern California Water Company, et al
The Story:
Over 1200 residents of the San Gabriel Valley filed personal injury claims against approximately 100 corporate businesses and local water distributors for toxic pollution arising from the alleged dumping of solvents, ammonium perchlorate and other chemicals into the soil and groundwater.
The Cases:
The investigators from Parrent Smith, working for the Joint Defense Group, were able to provide detailed background histories of the plaintiffs that often contradicted information on the plaintiff questionnaires that were submitted during discovery. This resulted in a number of the claims being successfully eliminated prior to the settlement that was ultimately reached. Additionally, Parrent Smith did research using the National Library of Medicine, as well as other sources, and were able to show alternative reasons for the physical harm alleged by the plaintiffs.
